The Isle:
History
There are 2.7 million Jamaicans of African,
Indian, Chinese and European descendants, hence "Out of many one people".
Standard Jamaican English is the language used
the formal context. Patois is used informally. It is a
mixture of English, Spanish and
African dialect.
Jamaica, the third largest island of the
Greater Antilles was ruled first by Spain and
then by Britain. Under british rule it became independant on
the 6th of August 1962.
